Buses on the Beach--Choppers in the Field!!!

We were having a cup of coffee, and heard the absolutely unmistakable sound of a chopper coming in low.  I said to Rox that it sounded like it was going to land on our house.  We rushed over to the railing for a look up, and sure enough here he comes and settles about 100 feet from us in a soccer field.STA73552.JPG

Well those guys in orange put in about seven boxes of stuff, and my guess it might be brochures or other campaign stuff, cause their truck had the name of the President and a local candidate.  But wait, it gets better...I think the pilot forgot how much the boxes added to his weight, and they took off straight at our house (a chopper can not usually go straight up to take off...it needs a "running start"...well, as we watch he is coming straight at us and finally pulls back on the stick and barely clears some of our tallest cocopalm trees...

And, as I write this, he has just returned...and the motor is idling right outside our window...STA73553.JPG

Ok...chapter two...they take all the boxes off, and a really big truck arrives with a lot shopping bags of food.  Then they take a picture of one of the doctors we have here at the hospital next door.  As I write this the rotors rev up, so I take a look, and here he comes again, but he is a fast learner, he goes beside our house at about 30 feet off the ground and threads the needle...pretty slick for a baby slick driver...

Chapter three...well, now it gets really interesting, in that the seven boxes are now off loaded, and a huge semi pulls up to the chopper and men start loading clear plastic bags, tied at the top, and filled about half way up with groceries--heavy, too.

Well, we find out that about 50 miles from here in the hills, probably a protected reserve, there sits a flooded village, with  no way in or out, and the villagers are up to their necks in water.  No food, No water...

Now it makes sense about the cases...they were canned goods, and if the chopper is just dropping food, and can't land, these heavy cases could kill someone neck deep in water.  And...the half-filled bags that are sealed at the top can float!!

So...there is one for the good guys...

I'm glad that that young chopper pilot is not risking his life in a contrived war with Columbia...Peace breaking out!!!
