Coffee with 500 Pelicans...

As we've been saying for a couple of weeks, spring is springing around here.  This morning, as we sat on the deck for our first cup of coffee, we saw a huge flight of pelicans--all drafting off the one in front (not all--the first guy was all alone...).  We tend to count these flights, as they are all in a row and fly by so slowly.  This first group was 47, so we figured that was about it for today...

Boy, were we wrong!  They just kept coming!!!

We hadn't noticed many pelicans for the last couple of months--maybe, two or three floating around--but not any huge numbers, so when all of these flights kept coming, we started to count--finally reaching over 500 flying south in formations, numbering from about 20 to 50.  So that was a nice start to the day...

We have noticed that the swallows are back in Montanita...about a thousand seat themselves on the power lines each night--I also noticed that we are just six months different from when the swallows normally come to Capistrano...wonder if it's the same dudes...

We are seeing lots of birds that were here last year...lots of robin-looking birds with yellow breasts, lots of bright red fly catchers, and a couple of new ones that make a sound just like our cell phone ringing...

Flowers and new growth are everywhere...

Everyone we talk to is excited to vote in the constitutional election next Sunday...It will give the people a huge number of new rights, benefits, and infrastructure...we will take lots of pics of the voting...
