"Futbol Fever" at the Casa Blanca...

One half hour before the big game Saturday, Rox and I strolled up to the Casa Blanca to find standing room only availability, and about a dozen envious fans looking at our "head table", which had a nice little sign on it "RESERVADO--Roberto--4;30"...So...don't let anyone tell you that it doesn't count being a "regular", one who considers the helpstaff friends, and a person who plans a little bit ahead...

The Casa Blanca has a first rate Sports bar system, with large screen TVs at each end of the bar...plus they play lot of rock that I request...take a look...

Now...Ecuador has a pretty darn good soccer team, but lately, they have been losing the close ones...this night was no exception, as they lost 2-1 on a penalty kick after the time had run out.  On Wednesday, The Team has one more chance to get in the World Cup in Africa in 2010, and that is by beating Chile.  Chile is already in the hunt, so maybe they will be playing carefully and with second stringers--with the idea that they don't want anything bad to happen to their top guys...(I hope).

There was lots of other fun stuff going on, if you didn't have your eyes glued to the TV...like this couple getting tattoos, but only the fun kind...

 That's a toothpick, not a needle...

It was one of those fun nights where a lot of folks stop by our table...turns out is was "Cuenca" night, as Mark and Happy dropped by to chat and tell us about their tour of the Coast.  Coquita didn't quite know what to do, being so close to a Golden Retriever, who seemed as big as a house to her...

Then Romero, who has been featured here, dropped by with his charming family, and we all talked a mile a minute, had lots of fun, and caught up on projects in the works.

Plus...Hector was back from his two week vacation, where he complained that all he did was lay around and get fat...a little...it seemed as though he was really glad to get back to work...

We also met a nice family from Amarillo, Texas, who had just become our neighbors from up Olon way...so Randy and fellow Texans, welcome aboard!!!

And, we can't forget our Russian friends...seems like a long time ago that we featured them in their tee shirt shop...they are back, and looking fit and ready to hit the ground running for the high season.

Montanita will be gangbusters this year, as the new road will let Ecuadoreans sample the fun, and still be able to make it home the next day.  Also, the town is now the darling of the "cutting edge" set...so stay tuned for photos that look like Times Square in miniature...

And...we had our resident "edgy" artist over for a beer, to talk about art and the state of the world...He appreciated being able to send our blog to friends to show what he was doing in Montanita...

Our ISP was down the last four days, but we wanted to say how much we enjoyed our visit and dinner at the CB with Ernie and Deborah, nice folks who have settled in Bahia, about a three hour drive north of us on the Coast.  They write a very intelligent and informative blog.  So, for you dreamers and lurkers, who wish to have more info about towns north of Manta, theirs is a must-read... http://www.pachamama-spectrum-of-treasures.com/2009/05/bahia-de-caraquez-ecuador-may-2009.html
