Haircuts and Beer by the Sea...

As you all remember, Alfonso, who is our friend, bank guard, and language coach, received a bonus from the bank last year, and used part of it to set his wife up in the beauty shop business...

Now...she is doing just fine, as she located her shop across the road from the local high school, one which has a strict dress code for boy's hair length...so, it is not uncommon for several boys to be sent right on over to "get it right"...good for business...

Rox and I had both needed haircuts this month, but we were not sure about waiting around in Elizabeth's shop, so we asked if she could please bring some shears over to our place and just cut our hair on the deck.

Elizabeth was a nervous wreck, as she had never cut estranjeros's" (foreigner's) hair before--in fact, she showed up with Alfonso, Agipina, Isidro, and her niece Sonia...

Since in was a "group-haircutting party", we passed out beer all around--except for Elizabeth, who was manning the shears...

We decided that I would go first, and there was suddenly a whole bunch of rapid-fire Spanish going around us, and the up-shot was that she only had a pink smock, and she was embarrassed to ask me to wear it for the haircut...not macho enough...Rox and I assured her that it was no big deal...take a look...

Actually, I thot I looked quite OK in pink...and another interesting note...she had never cut eyebrows before--seems that we gringos grow them out, and the Ecuadoreans don't...

Here's Rox

That's Agripina looking on in the background, and a side view of Sonia, who was their for a "Santa"s Elf" photo shoot...

Here is Rox after the haircut...she said it was shorter than usual, but that she really liked it...

When the haircuts were over, and we asked Elizabeth for the bill, she seemed nervous to tell us that mine was $1.25, and Rox's was $3.00--and she almost fainted when I gave her a ten, and told her that we wanted no change.
