Just read an article extolling the virtues of retiring to Mexico, when I see tucked in at the bottom a chart (there is a smaller one in the article lead), saying that Ecuador is second as a retirement mecca by only one point!!!
Rox and I couldn't agree more...
We were talking to Carol, the owner of the English Language bookstore in Cuenca, who told us that the number of ex-pats she sees as risen from about 100, four years ago, to about 500 now. That's a huge increase...In fact, the demand for the rental of our furnished apartment is so high, that we wish we had about five more...Bookstore description: http://www.cuencahighlife.com/post/2008/08/11/English-language-bookstore-c2b4dries-outc2b4-after-fire-in-a-new-location.aspx
Now...why is this important? Because 2010 is the year that the Boomers actually turn 65 for the first year. Believe it or not, there still are a few folks who have watched their p's & q's, and still have a retirement income to work with. "watching you p's and q's" is an old printer's line, whereby the person setting type did it by looking at the letters backwards, and it was easy to forget that when working with p's and q's-get it? Attention to detail, eye on the ball, shoulder to the wheel, all the stuff grandma used to tell you...she was right!!!
We have met a lot of wonderful folks from Canada in the last year--they seem to be even more active in searching for somewhere to live that doesn't involve shoveling snow and paying a fortune for heating for 5 months a year. Please check out Brian and Shelley's blog as they describe their move and adjustment to living in Cuenca... http://planetirony.blogspot.com/.
And welcome again to all of you newer readers...we see that you have been slogging through tons of back pages, and we are honored that you are taking the time to read our stuff.
