A Canadian Friend of Canadian Friends

Brian and Shelley have been talking about the impending visit of their friend Greg for quite awhile, and it often seemed that he would never make it down here, as the delays kept him tethered to Vancouver.  Well, he finally made it to Cuenca...had some parties with all the folks there, and decided that he wanted to see the Coast...

We suggested some new cottages built by the owner of our Spanish School, and before you know it, he had contacted them, made reservations, and was here in Montanita...

The grounds, pool, hot tub, and communal kitchen and meeting room, have allowed Greg to be adopted by a much younger crowd of students, and faculty...He said that he was thrilled that they accepted him so readily, considering the difference in ages...'course being a really nice guy helps...

He was allowed to sit in on an ongoing Spanish lesson, but he said that, without knowing any Spanish, they were going too fast for him.  So, he did the smart thing, and will be signing up for private lessons with Rosamelia, who was our Spanish teacher when we went there.  She is great with us "ol coots"...

Here are a couple of shots we took when he was over for dinner...

And the obligatory "sunset with the green flash" picture--and yes, he did see his first ever "Green Flash"

We were still "solving the world's problems" hours after this sun had set...

We plan to get together at the Casa Blanca, for some serious People Watching...stay tuned...

A little update...

We all had lunch at the Casa Blanca yesterday (Thursday), and Greg raved about his beach time, his comfortable nights , and especially his lack of arthritic pain that has been bothering him whenever he was in cool Vancouver or rainy Cuenca...In fact he has extended his stay at these cottages, 'cause he feels so good.

I think it might also be the fact that he has been adopted by five Swedish babes who insist on spending many hours by the pool...but, that is just a guess...but they do regard him as their private photographer...

For you Cuenca folks who are tired of the rain, here is the website for these great cabanas  http://www.montanitahotel.com/  and a little inside info for the readers of our blog...just call Jim at 094 364 265, and mention us or Greg, and he will take care of you.

We are in the middle of our "rainy season", and we have had no rain for 48 days...and the transition months are coming...

Lovely post Bob and Rox. Please say hello to Greg from Shelagh and Peter. We e-mailed a few times while he was still in Vancouver. We follow Planetirony and knew he was making his way to the coast. We did hope he'd meet up with you. The cottages where he is staying look wonderful. Good for Greg on the spanish lessons. How are you two doing with it? We hope to be in Ecuador in the new year but could also be there sooner depending on things up here. It is a big step changing one's life but it all starts with a first step. Also great blogs loaded with info are great too. Thanks for that. Cheers Shelagh and Peter
