The "Iguana" days of "Rainy Season"

Just in case you didn't pick up on the title, I was trying to adapt the old saw, The "dog" days of "Summer", to fit our seasons here in Ecuador.  Here are two of those little guys now...about four feet long including measurement of super long tail...

Well, we got plenty of iguanas, but we got no rain...I'm sure that our friends in Cuenca would be glad to share some of theirs, but we have had none since February 10...a long time to wait for free water in the "rainy" season.  Isidro spends a lot of time hosing down our outdoor plants (over 100), and I cringe when I pay the water bill, but Rox keeps telling me "You don't want the plants to die, do you?", so off I go and pay up.

Speaking of plants, when we were leaving Montanita with Brian and Shelley, there was a gardener who had just aggressively trimmed a cactus plant in front of a restaurant, and I asked Shelley, the green thumb of cacti, if it might grow in our yard...she grabbed a chunk, and the poor cactus rode around in the back of our car for three weeks, and we finally planted it--talk about a survivor--take a look at its new "babies"...

We have just spent a wonderful month here on the Coast, and had some really nice visitors...see previous logs...and now we head out to Cuenca tomorrow--it's election day, so we hope that we don't run into too many road blocks.  Here in Manglaralto, the center of voting for our area, they totally block off the "Ruta del Sol", the Pacific Coast Highway of Ecuador.  This is so the huge crowds of voters can freely roam around the voting areas, while still visiting the many vendors that sell everything from CD's to Bras...

In addition, just to keep the election fair and honest, there is no booze served from Thursday until Monday to voters--we expat drunks don't have to slow down, however...

In addition, there is a complete cessation of poll announcements and political ads beginning on Thursday..."course, there still are a million billboards...

I like the idea that the "talking heads" might be shut down...quite a concept--maybe Ecuadorians can supervise US elections...nah...

We wish we'd taken a chunk of that cactus to bring home with us. It looks great! Thank you for sharing!
