Now, I just received a really funny copy of a blog entry which details a confrontation between the USA and Canada...in 1995...so it was on Bill's watch and not W's...and I broke out laughing and am still smiling...

Hi, Just a quick note to say I really like your blog and hope you keep the posts coming.
I had also heard this aircraft carrier story before. I am actually from Newfoundland, and would venture to guess this is a fictional joke created by a Newfie - it is very much inline with the sense of humour in Newfoundland.
