Trouble in Paradise? Not so Much!

We have been a little busy with a project for some friends, and have not had much time to post lately, and then we had the "National Police Strike!"...

To tell you the truth...it was not much of anything in the big picture, but it got the newspapers around the world all worked up.

Seems that the President was detained for some hours by rogue police during the first hours of the strike, but, guess what?  They were on their own.  Many fellow National Policemen did not agree with kidnapping the President as a smart labor strike ploy, the population didn't agree, and neither did the Army.  Apparently there were a couple of ringleaders who had their own agenda, but I doubt that they were really employed by Ecuador...maybe you should just take a guess as to which alphabet group they might have been paid by...

Here at the Coast, it was just a little slow as quite a number of business elected to shut down about 11:00 am, because they feared looting and no police to call.  But...it didn't happen...just about everyone ignored  the whole thing.

The weather has turned balmy, and people are more worried about making ends meet, than they are about the bonuses of a bunch of State Cops...or for that matter, the problems that the super-rich are having with Correa.

The super rich in Ecuador are a bit huffy, because Correa seems to think that the treasure of the country should be more or less evenly divided among the citizens, and not just poured into the pockets of the rich and connected.

When we drive down highways that are smooth, see more housing going up for the poor, and more education for poor kids, we think things are going just fine...

This is a shot from our deck--which incidently is just about on the same latitude as Tahiti...

I grew up in Manglaralto! in fact my Dad still lives there in La Via a Dos Mangas, just before Father Ottmar's farm. My Dad was friends with the original owners of your house. I used to play there! My Dad was the owner of Manglaralto's first hotel more than 35 years ago! :-) I have told him and my brothers and sister about your blog. It makes me so happy to read it and to look at your pictures. Peace and health.
