Other fun things going on at the Beach...

Here's an update on several get-togethers...

First, we had Shell and Marsha, and their son Shawn, over for dinner, with lots of talking about the beginning of their new life here in Ecuador.

Here is Coquita usurping Shell's lap as she tries to outshine their 10 year old Dachshund, Oscar...

We also had Mack and Gina over to tell us how their exploring of the Coast is going...they are in the first stages of investigating Ecuador the right way...renting a vehicle and sampling lots of places and sights in a very short time.  As you can see, Coquita is helping them not miss their two fine dogs at home...

Rox jumped the gun on the Christmas Party a bit, in that she presented Alex, the grandson of Agripina and Isidro, with some lessons in the English language reading workbook.  His mother is raising him by herself, so he spends quite a bit of time over here, as Mom also has to work.  Over the last several months he has helped around here more, and we have gotten to like him a lot.  Here, Rox has translated some of the English into Spanish to ease him into reading the English on his own, later.

Each week, when he helps carry up groceries from the car, we have a little session to see which new English words he has learned.  As it turns out, the whole family is thrilled that he is taking a liking to learning another language, one which we hope will add to his value in the over-crowded Ecuadorean workplace...

As it turns out, the whole family is learning the words together...

And...in the cateory of "Be careful what you wish for", we decided that the State would not be putting up a new sea-wall any time soon, and since our boulders were slowly sinking into the new sand, we decided to hire the big excavator to dig them out, and stack them up better.  December is coming, and we want to be ready for those big waves, this time...

We were surprised when the operator showed up on the same day we talked to him, and built the wall in five hours, ending at midnight...

Gina took this shot of me "supervising", which often means that we tell them hpw we want it, and then they do it their own way...

When we went to bed at midnight, the wall was finished and smooth on top, but we had yet to understand how Really Big it was...

We hadn't intended to make a seven foot wall, so we had the operator come back in the morning and lift off the top layer, so that people looking out from our ground floor would still have a view of the breaking waves...

Here is a shot of our beach--clean and uninhabited...and stretching for miles!

We show a lot of sunsets...but take a look at this sunrise!

Monday, we begin a new construction project--so tune in and follow us along!!!

Hi Rox and Bob

Thank you for sharing your photos and story. I'm hoping to retire early to life on the beach. I'll be venturing that way after the 1st of the year to explore the possibilities.
