Sweet, Suite ON the beach...

Well, I was going to name this entry "Are we Nuts?, but I figured it might be better to call if what it is!  Rox and I got quite a kick out of fixing up Shell and Marsha's cabana to make it habitable...

We ran our resort which included Bar, Restaurant and little cabins during the 70's and 80's, and when we finally burned out, we told ourselves "Never again!!!".  But...maybe a 20 year hiatus is enough to get the motor running again...

So...we have decided to fix up the lower level our our house to rent to folks who wish to be just steps from the beach, but also wish to have a number of amenities that make a stay more enjoyable...Before you ask, this lower level is totally removed from our living area upstairs...no interior stairway--nada...you get total privacy!

We took the first steps Monday,  by ordering new windows, doors, closets, shelving, kitchen cupboards, and we have our eye on new stove, fridge, TV,  Queen pillow-top bed, easy chairs, lounge furniture, Internet connection, and dining table.  We also plan to put down new ceramic tile on the floor.

We have the guys beginning the tough work of cutting out a section of marble to fit in the new stove, prepping for new paint, designing the new bathroom and plotting where pipes and electrical all will go...

We even have an "arch" planned between the kitchen-bath area, and the rest of the suite.

That's the start of it...we will keep you posted and add pics in the next 4 weeks...

I kind of hate "before" pics, since they are all depressing, dirty and dusty, but they do show progress after you have been at it awhile...

This is Alfredo making the first cut in the marble counter where the stove will go.  He also has to cut out five inches of concrete full of re-bar.

Those ugly doors will be replaced in two weeks.

Here is Manual getting the ceiling ready for painting...

And yes...the color of the walls will certainly be changed!!!

Tomorrow, we are going to draft a truck and head on down to get Queen Bed, Ceramic Tile, toilet, vanity, fridge, stove, water cooler, and probably the TV.  We will be storing all of these shrink-wrapped items safely next door in the 2nd Maid's Quarters, so that they miss all the pervasive dust...

Wow, Peter says you will have no problem filling the place up. I agree....Just save us a few days!!!!!!!

Will you rent it for long term stays or just a few nights at a time?

I wondered what was up when you had the top layer of rocks removed for lower level viewing of the ocean. Looking forward to the pics.

Cheers, Shelagh and Peter

I love your site, it feels like we are helping you remodel. I am coming down in January will your rental be finished by then and will you rent by the night? We have 2 long hair Chihuahuas, one thinks he can take a German Shepherd, how much trouble would they get in with the iguanas?
I am coming alone in January, have been thinking about asking if I could take you folks to diner at Casa Blanca,it seems everyone wants to do that, good thing you live on the beach so you have a good place to walk of all that food.

Hope to see you in January

Hi Bill...
Thanks for the good vibes...
We plan to have the suite ready in the next two to three weeks.
We definitely will rent it by the night. but we might have a certain minimum number of nights. How long do you plan to stay in our area?
Dogs are welcome, but since everything is new, we will be charging a refudable damage deposit for pets.
The iguanas know all about dogs...so they will be safe.
Thanks for the encouragement,

Bob & Roxanne
