Baby Iguana picks strange place to spend the night!

When I flicked off the car cover the other day, I did a double take as I also uncovered a sleepy baby iguana sleeping in the wiper well of the car.  We hadn't moved the car for a few days, so I guess he just made himself at home.

In fact, he never did scare off--I had to lower him down to the ground riding on a little stick...

Take a look...

Here's Rox trying to "tickle" him to jump off, but it turns out, he wasn't ticklish!

We have learned over the years, that we can carry big and little iguanas by gently running a stick under their airpits and lifting them.  They sort of grab on with their front claws and you can carry them just fine.

I was able to walk him over to some grass beside the car and put him down.  He still wasn't really scared--he only moved away slightly when I started the engine...

This little guy was blocking the driveway when I got back home about 30 minutes later...

I had to get out and coax him over to a safer place...

Just in case you ae wondering, iguanas lay eggs, but at our house,  they are not in the ground, but high up in our coca palm trees, where they are safe from most bad guys...

Attachment Issues--Maybe? (two days later...)

When we went out to the car this morning--you may have already guessed that our little guy was right back in the wiper well.

We think he is in love with the cooling engine block as it ticks cooler.  Must be some primeval memory chip of how nice the egg was heated by mom's belly?  You all remember using a ticking clock to make a new puppy feel less fearful on his first night at your house...That's where I was going...

He's fine...he hopped off with only a littly persuasion...took a few steps away, and watched us drive away...
