Countdown to the Kid's Christmas Party--Loading 280 Baggies!

When we went to town last thursday, we had some strange looks in the supermarket line.  Rox loaded 400 weiners onto the counter, a huge number of mayonaise, mustard, and catsup containers, 100 lbs of potatoes, and a massive amount of celery...all this in preparation for the Hot Dog and Potato Salad plates that will be served to the kids (& moms).  It really got heavy when 30 3 liter bottles of Coca Cola and Sprite were added to the mix!

Our plan is to boil the potatoes on Monday and get a crew together for a potato peeling bee on Tuesday, and make and refrigerate a gazillion pounds of Rox's famous patato salad.  Also,  skin the plastic wrap off 400 wieners and pre-cook them.

I went down Friday, to the town just south of us,  to a bakery that has a 100 year old oven, and ordered 400 "hot dog" buns for pick up Tuesday afternoon.

Friday, Rox land I broke into the quadruple wrapped sacks of Christmas candy and animal crackers called Junglitas (obviously a combination of the English word "jungle" and the Spanish ending meaning "little", so the whole word means "little jungle animal crackers".

Here are some shots of us struggling to make sure that all of the baggies are filled correctly.  Our formula was about half full with animal crackers--which kids absolutely love down here--and all kinds of different Christmas candy--even little chocolate bars!

Here is a close-up of some bags...

Rox is finishing up the last few baggies...this is hard work in that we are constantly leaning over into the middle of the bed to add more goodies.  Plus, zipping up the little buggers, before anything got stale was, made us a little nutso...

Here is a shot of all the finished baggies on a queen-size bed...

This weekend, we load these baggies into a larger Christmas gift bag, which will have the child's truck or doll or baby item, and some school supplies, featuring paper, pens, pencils, crayons, readers, and coloring books.  Lots of colored pencils and felt pens.

When your back gets sore, you can always sit in the sun to "recooperate". It will all be worth it when you see their faces on the day of the Party. Thanks for doing this.

Hi JR & Kathy...we may complain a little, but we wouldn't trade a second of it for the world! And...of course, we thank you for your encouragement and support...

We're on the downhill slope now...we just have to do the job!

Thanks again,

Bob & Rox
