The $269.00 Songbird Ultra Hearing Aid works just great!!!

The Songbird hearing aid that I mentioned a few entries back, arrived about two weeks ago.  I have tested it in Cuenca and most importantly here at the Coast, where we have a continuous wave noise in the background.

First off, where I used to have to ask Roxanne to repeat almost every comment, I now don't even think of doing it.  To say that this single item has relieved a lot of tension, is to put it mildly.  There is nothing more annoying than for the person to whom you are speaking, to always answer with some variation of "what!"

Secondly, I am now getting a semblance of directionality in the sounds I hear.  Before, with my left ear almost deaf, I could hear a sound or voice, but I had no clue to its location.  It is way better now.

I was initially put off when I opened the package, because the unit was so small.  How could it do the job?  I had figured that a unit that fits behind the ear would take up the whole area--not so.   This thing is little!  In fact, the only part of the hearing aid that one can see, is the small transparent tube that runs from behind the ear into the ear canal.

The batteries are the 312 type, and are pretty cheap.  I have been told that they last about a week or two.  On EBay, one can buy them in bulk for about a quarter...other places charge from fifty cents to about a buck.

When I had my ears tested in Cuenca, the examiner added a huge amount of white noise to my right ear, in order to test just the left ear.  My performance was only 40% due to the distraction of the loud noise in my right ear.  Now, when both ears hear the same thing, they work together to tell my brain what I am hearing.  Much, much better.

Here is the website in the US:  http://www.songbirdhearing.com/products/ultra-hearing-aids.html

When I talked to customer service, I was told that my unit was guaranteed for 60 days, not the 30 that I had originally thought.  So...if any of you folks are having a mild to moderate hearing loss (and mine was pretty bad), I would gladly recommend that you give the Songbird a try.  It surely beats spending $6,000, as a few of my friends have.  Plus a money-back guarantee!!!

Incidentally, if you are going for the 15% off that also rewards me, I am the Robert Hedges that had a unit sent to Houston.  Codeword is "Cardinal"...

Hi Peter and Shelagh...You have no idea how much tension is gone from our conversations, now that I don't start each conversation with "What?"
The company actually has a little discount program for buyer and referrer...I was reluctant to put it in as we are proud that we don't have advertising on this blog.
This is it:
"Make sure friends and family mention your name (Robert Hedges from Houston) when ordering. Tell them to use the code "Cardinal" so they receive 15% off their order! For each person who orders, you’ll receive $20 off your next Songbird flexfit™ unit".
A little something for all...

That's great!
I will be getting those hearing aids next year but they're going to be purple! *I'm crazy 15*
also I have earmolds like that but mine is clear with purple glitter (wearing them right now)

I think everyone who has a budget of $269 should consider this Songbird hearing aid. You said that it really works great, so why no to try. Let us see how this one can satisfy us. I just hope this can bring a good quality sound to our ears.

That does sound like a pretty good hearing aid. I'll have to look into it more, but I'm pretty picky about what I stick in my ears. I'm considering getting Bluetooth ones that I can transfer music to them with my phone. They're quite a hefty penny, but I love my music.
