Another Project checks in "on time", but "off color"...

From our balcony, we look down into a nifty little pottery shop--a family run operation that has everyone helping out.  They have a number of display rooms, intermixed with family living rooms like kitchen and sleeping quarters.  What is fun, is that they have painted and unpainted pottery of every kind, utilitarian and decorative--large and small...Plus...the prices are low and negotiable!  Here are the owners posing for us...

Rox has been using Cuenca as a vast shopping area for locating little and bigger decorative items for our new kitchen at the Coast, etc.  We are going to look like the Beverly Hill Billies on our return to the Coast this Sunday...

In any event, she bought some nice pottery vases on Tuesday, and wanted me to take a look at a couple of items that she thought I might like...

I really like the shop, particularly the painted animals...a turtle struck my fancy, but it was unpainted.  I asked the nice owner how much more than the $18 price it would be to have it painted and told her that we wanted the same colors as this vase...

We know that no turtle and earth has colors like those pictured above, but we have a couple of large cement alligators at our place in Oregon, and earth tone colors make them look great...So she said that the coloration would be an extra two bucks, and she would have it done early the next morning.

Sure enough, when we arrived the following morning, she was walking into the shop carrying our newly painted turtle--RIGHT ON TIME!!!

This time, there was one slight glitch...none of the colors on the brightly painted turtle even approached those shown in the vase above.  They were all primary colors--bright yellow,  green, blue, orange, and red--a great look for a kindergarten class, but not what we wanted...

So we took the turtle, smiled a lot, and told her it looked great, and decided to paint it ourselves!  We neglected to take a shot of the primary colored turtle, but here is Rox putting on numerous "browned down" acrylic colors, bought at the local stationery store...

Here he is with the last coat of clear acrylic...

I have already begun to drop in all those loose coins that seem to accumulate in the pocket everyday...The potter was proud to tell me that he had fashioned a pottery plug in the bottom that was spot glued for when we plan to empty it.

We think you will be seeing "Tommy Turtle" in pics that we take of the kitchen bar on the Coast...
