Serrated Ridges, Ice Blue Sky, Fluffy Llamas--a perfect day to commute through the Caja National Forest...

After having a ton of fun in Cuenca, we loaded up the car, and left early Monday morning for our trip to the Coast...It felt strange to be putting on shorts in Cuenca, but they are necessary at the Coast.  This time of year, Guayaquil is not so blazing hot, so we could have worn "long" pants, but wearing shorts is also a state of mind...

It was overcast as we left Cuenca, but the sky turned ice blue after we had climbed about 1000 feet, and it stayed that way up and over the lip of the Cuenca bowl, until we hit the 4000 foot level...then...nasty ol' fog for about 45 minutes!!!  Just in  case you are not following the altitude changes, we begin in Cuenca at about 8400 feet, go up to about 11,000 feet, and then coast downhill to the flat lands where gazillions of acres grow rice, bananas, corn, and great veggies...

Here are some shots to get you in the mood to take that fabulous trip!!!

The rest of the drive was uneventful, except that the nut behind the wheel thought he had discovered a shortcut around Guayaquil, after driving 60 minutes in the wrong direction, it was apparent that he had NOT...

We drove under the overcast all the way home, but everything brightened considerably, as Isidro threw open our gates, and Agripina also came out to greet us with hugs and smiles--all accompanied by lunatic gyrations by Coquita...

They were fine, we were fine, the house was fine, and everything was fine for the week we were gone--now how's that for a perfect ending???

Hi Karen...sorry to have missed out meeting you all this time, but we go to Cuenca every two months and will look forward to seeing you on the next go round. We have found that, if we don't take it easy on the night before we drive back to the Coast, that Rox must spend a lot of the trip trying to make sure that I don't doze off while driving.

So, as the song says "See you in September..."
Thanks for writing,

Bob & Roxanne

These photos are unbelievable !! Your pics are always great but these shots of cloud-less skies are amazing. The air must be so clean.

Keep up the wonderful work ! I look forward to meeting both of you !

Hi Jo...thanks for the inspiring words...The Caja National Forest is a magical place that charges us up every time...plus it gives everyone a chance to take great pics! This is a drive where "stopping to smell the roses" pays big dividends. You would be amazed to see the number of SUV's that roar through this Park a speeds that are just below braking loose and sailing right off each curve!
Gringos, too! We just stay to the right and enjoy the experience...
So...thanks again...

Bob & Rox
