The Kid's Christmas Party gets a Mega-Boost in July!!!

Our friend Allan, and his wife Mary Lou, lead a tour of teachers to the Galapagos each year.  When they are done, they spend several days with us, unwinding and catching us up with all the latest fun stuff...

Well, last year, they were particularly taken by our entries describing the Christmas Party that we give for needy children, and the entry describing how difficult it is for some families to buy school supplies, beyond the basics provided by the schools...

So...they told us, earlier this year, that maybe they could help both causes by bringing down school supplies, which they hoped could be obtained by them and their fellow teachers.

The generosity displayed by these good teachers and friends, was beyond anything we could have hoped for--take a look!

The kids will love getting pens, pencils, crayons, notebook paper, and theme books, but they also get flash cards for math and language, exercise math books, story books in Spanish and English, and lots of rulers, protractors, paper clips, and other goodies!!!

We were particularly pleased to see primary grade story books in English, as the school system is trying very hard to give every student some English language familiarity.

In addition to thanking all the wonderful anonymous donors, we would also like to thank Allan and Mary Lou for picking up the over-limit weight charges for the two 70 pound suitcases it took to carry all these treasures.

If you wish to know more about the Galapagos trip that Allan leads, please take a look at the description of this continuing education website by University of San Diego...

How great is that!! I so enjoyed all the posts and pix of the last 2 Christmas parties. Also wanted to know about Rox's cool chicken up on the kitchen cabinet. Can we see a close up and did you purchase it there?
Thanks for sharing your great adventure.

Hi Susan...thanks for the good vibes about the kid's Christmas parties...it hardly seems possible that we are only a couple of months off from beginning to buy toys for this year!
Rox bought the chicken in Cuenca. It is made of copper, and I will post a close up of it soon.

Thanks mucho,

Bob & Roxanne

OH, there is that bad boy!!!!! I kept looking for posts but did not think to scroll down...duh! Now I'm pretty much a city girl but I do think that is a rooster and he is magnificent! Rox has such great taste.

Speaking of chickens...in one post you showed a pic of chicks in the yard. Were they wild or someone's that got out? Is it possible to keep chickens to have fresh eggs or are there too many natural predators? Or is there a local person that sells fresh eggs?

Thanks again for sharing.
