Earthquake with our Coffee--whales jumping, too!

At 6:55 this morning, we were just starting our second cup of coffee on the deck, when we got the old familiar sideways motion...that said Earthquake!  Since both of us were born in California, it was just more of the same, but it does make you believe that Mama Nature is a force way bigger than the mere human animal...

The thing lasted about 20 seconds, and we both had the same ol conversation..."should we do something?  or, just sit here and ride it out?"

Seems it was pretty big at around 7.0 just out of Quito, and the folks in Cuenca got a pretty good ride...probably because they are straight south, connected by a bunch of granite called the Andes...

Had a nice chat with brother Rich and learned that they had a good ride on the 10th floor penthouse they call home...a few things thrown off shelves, and Rich getting knocked about in the kitchen.  They are OK...

A quick note to Patty...we are all fine--thanks for the fast email...

Two minutes after the quake, Rox and I were speculating about Tsunami waves, when we, all of a sudden, see a bunch of white foam about a mile out...zowiee...we don't really want a Tsunami...

But...it was a pod of Humpback whales who probably had their sonar screwed up by the passage of those earthquake vibrations...  They danced around, flapping their huge tales in the water, and breaching completely out of the water, to tumble down with a huge splash, that seemed to last for seconds...

Five minutes later, all was quiet, and we didn't see any more white water...
