Montanita--Number One Tourist Attraction in Ecuador!

We have been describing Montanita's ascent to Number One as an attraction for tourists for about three years now, and we now believe that it is getting even more popular!

Last night, we arrived in Montanita for our dinner at the head table at the Casa Blanca, but we had to navigate through this crowd first!

The Casa Blanca is near the end of the "canyon" of people, about three blocks further down.  For people watching, it doesn't get much better than this.  And...not hardly a Gringo in sight!  These are Ecuadoreans enjoying their own country...

As we were eating, we had hundreds of people passing our table, the normal street hucksters, the jugglers, fire eaters, clowns, and even got to watch a Rap video being made about 40 feet down the street from us!

If we were teen-age Ecuadoreans, we would probably know who these singers are, but being us, we don't have a clue...reminds me of Bobby Darrin(sp)...The guy in  the hat was doing most of the singing...

His co-star graciously posed with dozens of salivating young guys after they closed down the filming...

We spent about two and a half hours enjoying the scene passing by, and then walked the eight blocks back to our car.  That was as close as we could get...this is the street scene looking back from the Casa Blanca...

So...another fun night...so busy, that we even commented to Hector and Jorge, our waiters, "Boy, there's surely a lot of tourists here tonight!!!"  (it's a little different when said in Spanish)

I think this is their Independence Day weekend and from what I have read from all the bloggers in Cuenca the weather has been much colder than usual.

My significant other and I will be traveling back to Colombia for a couple of months on Sept. 13 and I am hoping we can do a trip to Equador while there. I am enjoying the posts that you two and Nancy are putting out... you can see mine at www.retiredforgood.blogspot.com

We are currently in the Seattle area, and spent almost three months in Colombia last winter (Nov-Feb) and have found it charming and lively. I like learning about your travels.
