Google "Talk" arrives on our Desktop...

Yesterday, a new message arrived on my desktop (Google is my homepage...), and I was invited to download some software that would give me free calls to the US and Canada for the rest of 2010.  Well, I have an extremely slow connection, but the software downloaded quickly.

To get it up and running I had to tell the computer to let it do it a couple of times.

I didn't want to bother anyone with a practice call, so I called Bank of America and listened to their endless number of options when I pressed different numbers on the keypad.

I have to say that the tone quality and rapid response was far superior to Skype.

Now, this software says that I can call anyone I want to, land-line or cellular.  When I was searching for this offer on the web, I did not see it.  I wonder if Google is just sending out a Beta program to some of us who use them as a homepage?

If anyone out there can tell me what Google is actually doing, I would appreciate it...Thanks mucho...

Hey Bob and Rox,
I read your blog to Peter, he said to go to our gmail account and sure enough there was the free offer. I have now installed it and called ourselves on it to test it. It seems to lag a few seconds behind. Very clear. I'm driving Peter crazy hitting the redial Button!!!!! LOL
Take care

We would imagine that about now you are anxiously waiting for some nice Canadian Fall weather...

All the best,

My husband tells me...go to CNET.com. Search for Google-Talk, and it's the best place to learn about anything new with Google, Apple, and MicroSoft.

We are trying to relocate to Ecuador, hopefully in March. I read many blogs, and really enjoy them. Thanks so much for your wealth of information!
