Helping out a baby seal, while doing serious beach time...

This morning as we were all drinking coffee at our two deck levels, we noticed a black animal about 100 feet to our right, sort of up in the bushes off the beach.  Rox saw it first, and thought it was a dog...sort of no big deal...

Well, when she put the glasses up to her eyes, she said, "it's a seal!"  So, off we go to see the seal, since we have never seen one on our beach for over 40 months...

It's usually bad news when an animal is up on the beach, and you can walk right up to it, but today was not the case!  We had had extremely high waves and high tides last night, so the beach was totally clean and flat--no footprints at all.  We think that this little seal might have had his mouth bitten by a bigger predator, and been out of it when the big waves washed him up into the bushes.

We looked him over as he skittered out of the bushes, and he didn't seem to have any broken bones or torn flesh.  He seemed a little weak, however.  We sort of indicated where the water was, and he followed us downhill...

When the first wave came up to him, he took a few big gulps of the salt water.  I was sort of taken aback, since every time I see an animal drink salt water, they throw it up almost immediately.  But...this is a mammal that lives in salt water, and eats fish and chews them up in salt water, soooo.

After the drink, he seemed much more energized, so much so,  that, as  I was lining up a shot of him and Rox, a large wave came on in, embraced him, and he took off like a shot (relatively...).  So...no family photo...

Here is the last photo...that I was able to take...

Scott and Lindsay, then took the lounges and giant beach towels out for a little more sun...the beach was flat, clean, sandy, and private!!!

Soo...if this is all they get done on their vacation, they already "done good"!!!
