A First for Us! Our Guests arrive by Cruise Ship!

Take a look at the Star Princess...

Here is the third shot of the Princess Star...

Last week our sister in law, and her sister sailed into Manta for a whirlwind stop at Manta.  Roxanne and I figured we couldn't pass up a chance to visit with family members, so we arranged to pick them up, drive them down to our place for lunch, and then head back up to Manta in time for them to sail that evening.

We didn't want to spend a lot of time driving in the dark, so we found lodging in an older resort about 15 miles south of Manta.  Here are several shots of the place...

This place borders the jungle, so we were close to Manta, but far enough away, not to be bothered by big city noise...

When you pick someone up at the boat in Manta, you don't just drive up to the gangplank, like they do in the movies.  In fact, you are not permitted to advance beyond the "border" which stops you about a half mile from the ship.  The ship is so big, that you can see it fine, but it is considered "out of the country".  Passengers must line up to get temporary visiting docs to go ashore.  Manta is a busy seaport, so we watched all kinds o trucks, containers, and buses going back and forth for the hour that we waited for Mary and Vickie.

It turns out that they couldn't process out until the "tour" groups had received their docs first...

Finally they were bused up to the border check station, and waved through.  We all had hugs and jumped in the car for the trip down the Coast.

It was fun to point out the sights in the fishing villages, and large jungle areas we passed through.

Here is a shot of the ladies standing on our deck just before lunch...

Just relaxing after finishing off one of Rox's famous Chicken and fruit salad plates...

Here are a couple of sunsets for you sunset lovers...

 Coquita says hello...

These visits are always too short...so we hope that the next time we see Vickie, and Mary (and husband Dean), they will be visiting us here in Ecuador for a little longer spell...

Now that cruise ships dock in Manta, I wonder if you can enter Ecuador for visit? I'll have to check that out. Love your photos as always. Thanks

Suzanne and I actually sailed Star Princess on an Alaskan cruise a few years ago so we enjoyed the photo. Met your next house guests as we neighbors for a short while in LaQuadra. We're now homeowners and looking forward to perhaps some R&R at your place on the coast once we get our container here and unloaded.

Bob and Roxanne,
Ken and I are headed to the EC costa again in May. We spent time exploring Salinas up to Montanita last year, and this year we wish to explore areas to the north and south of Manta. Any advice you can give us on where we should stay in the Manta area, on the ocean? We have always rented cars, but this time we are taking the bus and/or taxis. Maybe we can stop by and say hi if you are available!

Love your blog, been reading it for over a year now.
Thanks,

Tami
