Whale's Tails and Cocktails...

Ever since July started, we have been seeing Humpback whale spouts off in the distance, and we have become pretty good at "submarine race counting".  (For those of you who don't know about "submarine races, ask your father!).  Anyway, we count the large spouts that happen pretty close together to get a count of the adults, and then we count the little "mushroom" spouts to see how many babies are traveling with the pod...works pretty well...

But yesterday, this all changed!  We were having drinks on the deck looking out at the water, when Roxanne spotted a huge humpback jumping out of the water, about 200 yards from us!  The whales were playing and chasing fish just beyond the first breakers, and they were just outrageous!  Several adults and a few babies were all involved.  By the time they had meandered north, we could see crowds of locals gathering all over the beach, just to get a look.

So, is Ecuador a magic place, or what!!!
